For over a millienia, Hmong people have prescribed to a diet of freshley prepared herbal broth soup and steamed rice for the mother. This soup was prepared by her partner and/or other family members, as her principal duty was to rest and recover from the labor of bringing a new into this world. It was, and oftentimes continues to be, one of the few times in the lives of Hmong women when we were to explicitly expected to engage in self-care for our physical health and spiritual well-being.
